Quiz Attempts - Storyline

May 26, 2020

Hi all,

This is an interesting one, I've been trying out the latest 'failed' status that our LMS is now supporting along with the option to select this when publishing a course.

As an example, I've created a quiz, given the user three attempts to complete the quiz successfully and then the retry button gets disabled - all good.

The issue is for example, when the user closes down the course using the X button on the browser, even after only having one attempt at the quiz, the course status changes to 'failed'.

It does however work when the user fails the quiz after one attempt, click the retry button (which is resetting the results) and then closes the course using the X on the browser window.

The issue is, if the user clicks that X button and hasn't click the 'retry button' that resets the results, then they'll always get the failed status even after one, two attempts etc.

Any help or guidance with how to construct the course differently or any back end sittings to 'pause' the cmi.exit feed would be great!

Thanks,

Conor.

Hi Conor, I don't think that Storyline will give you the granular control over completion statuses that you are looking for. Is it possible for you to add a reset function prior to the user exiting the course as a work around? I guess you would have to rely on the user selecting the exit button to "reset (if attempts < 3) > exit". It could also give strange results on resuming the course as well, not 100% on that.

Hi Sam, thanks for your comments on this.

You're right, you have to depend on the end user to select that retry/reset button, which does work correctly, but only if they select that button, as we all know, users action/complete things in their own ways, so someone closing the X button on the browser is of course an option for them, but them LMS doesn't recognise that.
