Range of 'Correct' answers based on a Variable
Feb 21, 2014
I am new to Storyline but have worked with Variables before in other tools.
I work for a payroll company and I am trying to create an activity that will allow assoicates to calculate a paycheck and get feedback regarding which values calculated are correct.
To make updates easier I have setup the calculations with variables rather than hard coding the answers.
I have the basics down when it comes to variables and feedback. Where I am struggling is the range of answers. For example, say the correct answer is $12.40. We allow for 9 cents up or down to be correct depending on rounding. This means that I have 19 possible right answers for each quesiton.
I don't want to have to program in variables for each of the 19 instances. Is there an easier way? A way to program a range of answers using a variable as the mid point?

You could combine two conditions that check for the low-end value and high-end value.
Addng to Michael’s answer, also set up a variable named range and assign value 9.
This will allow you to change the range with minimal fuss, in the future.
In your 2 conditions check the calculated value against the “calculated value ± range”
Thank you both. This set me in the right direction. I am dealing with variables for the amounts so I took your idea and applied it to the variables I had setup. Bascially adding a high and a low variable and doing the calculation. Simple but very effective and it will allow me to be able to use this as a template for future questions without haveing to hard copy in values. Thanks for the quick post! I tested it and it does what I need it to.
Oh. I see what you mean about the variable for the range. I will make that change as well. Thanks!
