Record Sound Now Working

Jan 31, 2014

I am in the Record Microphone dialogue box trying to record narration for a storyline course. I click the record button and it shows Start recording in 2 seconds, then Start recording in 1 seconds and it stops there.

I cannot get it to let me record. I know that my microphone is plugged in, turned on and is working with Windows. I can do a recording with Articulate Replay with the same microphone arrangement.

I did upgrade to Articulate Storyline Update 5 earlier this week.

Anyone know what this could be?

Hi Jeffrey,

If you haven't already, try restarting your machine to see if it's just an issue with installing the update.

It might help to start here:

Articulate Support - Unable to record audio

Also, make sure that you're working with a local project file:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If you're already working locally with your Storyline project files and you've updated, it may help to run a quick repair:

If you're still having trouble please let me know.

Thanks!

Jeffrey Riley

It must be close to Halloween because this problem is back to haunt me. When I plug in a microphone, the record message I show above happens again. It stops when it gets to the 1 second message and then nothing happens.

I have followed all of the instructions in Articulate Support and have enabled my devices. The headset does not work at all but the Logitech microphone on a stand does register in the screen. However, when I plug it in the record stops working. If I only use the built in microphone, I get a reverb sound that may be because of the room I am in.

This could be an issue with my laptop so I will pursue that as well.
