Recording previous answer when retaking quiz?

Jan 08, 2013

Hello,

Right now with Articulate Online, if someone retakes the quiz/survey, it erases the previous score/answer and replaces it with the new answers in the answer report. Is there any way to record their previous answers as well, without them being overridden every time they take the quiz?

The reason I ask is that I have a survey type story that multiple people may be taking on the same computer, and I would like them to not have to go in and out of the program for each (anonymous/guest) user. Think of it like a kiosk setup with an iPad. I'd like the start over button (which is just a reset course trigger) to take them through the survey again, and record the new answers. Right now, I have to exit and reenter the course in order to record a new answer in the Articulate Online reports. Thanks much!

This seems like it would also be the perfect case for a simple Google Analytics, but I'm not aware of being able to pass variables/answers to google with an Articulate Storyline project.

Hi Tait. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

You touched on the solution a little in your post and I just wanted to give you some additional information about using a single machine for a single course.

If you will be using a guestbook to collect information from your users on Public content items and if you will have multiple users accessing your content from the same computer, you will need to do the following to avoid caching / tracking issues:

  1. Set the permissions on your content to Private.
  2. Create user accounts for your students.  (See also Bulk Importing Users.)

If your users do not have email addresses, you can still create Articulate Online accounts for them by using unique identifiers that resemble email addresses in this format:

[UserID]@[Domain]

For example:

Note that your users will not receive email at these "addresses" since they are fictitious.

I believe this will be the best method for you to use, but either way the course is going to need to be launched by each user. You could even set up the course to close after a user finishes and just have a shortcut on the desktop of the machine. I'm not sure exactly how you have it set up, but I thought I'd just add the suggestion for a little more "ease" of use for yourself and your learners.

Good luck with the project!

Christine
