Replacing videos increases file size

Hi Heroes,
I have a course in SL3 with six short videos embedded and a .story file size of 385 MB. I compressed the videos to about 1/3 the size and used the Replace function to replace the larger videos with the smaller ones and my file size went up to more than 1GB!
I used the Delete Unused Videos function but that only reduced the file size from 1GB to 800 MB. The total size of all of the replaced videos combined is only 84 MB. It appears that the old videos are still lingering somewhere and preventing me from getting my .story file size down. What gives?

Hi, have you checked the size of your compressed videos against their original video size? Sometimes you can compress a video but the saved size ends up bigger than the original video size.
The other thing that sometimes helps is to open a new Storyline file and import the current story slides into it.
Do a save as to a new name should reduce the file size down.
Exactly what I do and it seems to work 95% of the time.
Thank you, everybody. I always save my files with new names when working on them the next day. Unfortunately, that didn't work. I ended up creating a new file and importing the slides.
I was hoping there was an easier way.
Hi Diane,
A project file might not immediately shrink in size when you delete a video. Storyline keeps deleted assets temporarily after you delete them in case you need to click Undo to restore them. The good news is your project file will eventually shrink, usually after saving it a couple times. But you can also get it to shrink right away by saving and closing the project file, then re-opening it and saving it again.
