Request for info regarding Flash Player local storage settings

Apr 24, 2014

Hi, I've just published a draft course for the web, and uploaded it to my webserver for proofing.

When I've entered its URL into Internet Explorer though, it started in a greyed-out window with a dialogue box in front:
--------------------
Adobe Flash Player Settings
Local Storage
[my website URL] is requesting permission to store information on your computer.

Requested: up to 1MB
Currently Used: 100KB
Allow / Deny
--------------------

It hasn't happened with any of my other Storyline courses, and I don't think I did anything special in this one...

I'm a little concerned because, as Adobe say at http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help02.html:

"It is the responsibility of the person or company requesting access to make it clear to you why they want access and how they plan to use the information they save. You should be aware of the privacy policy of anyone who is requesting access to your computer. For example, see Adobe's privacy policy. Contact the website requesting access for information on their privacy policy... it is the responsibility of the website requesting access to make it clear to you why they want access and how they plan to use the information."

...and I don't have any idea how I'd answer this question if I were asked it!

Please can anyone help to explain what's going on?

Hi Drew,

The default limit within your Flash Player's local settings is 100kb, which based on the information you shared it looks like you've reached the limit and that could be why you're receiving the message.  I'd suggest to clear out your cache and history for the browser and see if the message appears again.

Also, the information that is being stored, is likely the resume information so that the user can pick up where they left off.
