Requiring all icons to be "hovered" before advancing slide
Nov 22, 2013
HI, all!
I have a problem I'm trying to solve, and know that it must be possible to do in Storyline-- I just haven't found it yet.
I have a slide with 5 icons on it, and when the learner hovers the mouse over an icon, information about the topic pops up (as a layer) and then disappears when the learner moves the mouse to another icon, when ITS info pops up, etc.
My client would like to make sure that the learner visits all 5 icons and hovers over them to learn the material before clicking the Next button.
I am assuming this can be done with a variable, but I am not sure how to proceed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I forgot to add that my icons are coded as "hotspots." (If that makes a difference.)
Hi Richard,
I just "happened by" and saw your post. And I remembered there's an SL support page with practically that exact title:
How to disable the Next button until users have interacted with all hotspots.
Hope that does it for you
Have a look at the attached file and see if that works for you. There is one True/False variable for each of the hotspots; only if all five are True can the user go to the next slide. The variable are set to True as each layer is shown. You could expand on this setup and add triggers and states that provide an indicator that a icon/layer has been viewed.
Hi Richard! Looks like Becky and Michael have popped in to assist you here
Thanks guys :)
Thanks, all. As it turns out, I figured it out on my own this morning. My solution (maybe not elegant, but it does work) was to remove the Next button and insert a "Continue" button that is hidden in its initial state. The button became Normal when a counter I set up reaches the value of 5 (since there are 5 hotspots to hover the mouse over). After getting the syntax correct for the variable change loop (and forgetting for an hour that the "Reset" option clears the counter after the hover), it works just as I had hoped.
Thanks for the update Richard
