Restricting navigation in Articulate 2

Feb 20, 2015

We are trying to restrict the navigation only in one scene and leave it free in the rest of the course. The setting in the configuration seems to apply globally to the entire course. Is there a solution available that we have not thought of?

Thank you for your help

Hi Dean. I assume you're trying to restrict navigation in Storyline 2? If so, you can remove the player controls by unchecking the PREV and NEXT checkboxes on the Slide Properties in Story View or by clicking the settings icon (the little gear icon) on the base layer of the slide. You would need to do this for each slide in the scene you're trying to restrict.

If you do the above process of disabling the navigation buttons on the course player, you will need to create your own navigation buttons and use variables to control access to the other slides.

Here's another discussion thread that has some more step-by-step information in the comments. Hope this helps you out!

Cheers!

Hello, thanks for the suggestion Trina. However, because our menu remains visible at all times it allows the user to freely navigate even after hiding the Next/Prev buttons. The setting in the Player menu that Restricts navigation applies to the whole course. There is no way to restrict the menu navigation per scene? thanks for your help.

Ah! Okay, I'm following you now, Dean. :-)

Try this: go to any slide for which the menu is appearing, and click on the gear icon on the slide's base layer. This brings up the Slide Properties.  In the Player Features section, make sure the drop down shows "Custom for the selected slides"  and that the Menu option is unchecked. See how it's checked in my example, below? You'll want to deselect that checkbox to remove that player feature.

Since you need to do this for multiple slides in the scene, you can do it a little more quickly by going to Story View and using Ctrl+Click to multi-select the necessary slides, then use the Slide Properties in the lower-right of the Story View window to turn off the Menu for all the selected slides at once.

Again, I hope this helps you out!
