Retry Quiz Questions on Demand - SL2

Oct 20, 2017

Greetings!

I'm working on a project where there's a need for everyone to pass a 4 question KC at the end of a course. This has probably been addressed somewhere, but I couldn't find it in a search.

What's the best way to set up your SL2 course to allow learners to retry a quiz question on the spot? I'm using Jeff Kortenbosch's Feedback Master which I really like for on the spot constructive feedback. I just need to figure out the mechanics for the buttons. And would I even need a results slide?

Thank in advance!

Hi Christa! I'm happy to point you in the right direction. First, I'd like to get a better understanding of what you're looking to do:

  • Do you want learners to take all 4 questions, then go back and retry all 4 questions until they get them all correct?

    -OR-
  • Do you want learners to retry a single question until they get the answer correct before moving on to the next question?

I was just about to post a similar question. I believe my issue is the same. There are three choices in the multiple choice question. After choosing the two incorrect options, the slide automatically advances to the next slide. I've tried adjusting attempts, feedback options etc. and can't figure out how to leave them on the question until the correct answer is chosen.

Thanks for clarifying that, Christa! In that case, you'll want to set the number of attempts in the question Form View. You can even set the number of attempts to Unlimited if you want to force the learner to get the correct answer before moving on. And there's no need to create your own triggers--Storyline does the heavy-lifting for you!

Thanks for joining the discussion, Carlene! Strange that the slide automatically advances, even after you've adjusted the number of attempts. Are you using any custom triggers or custom layers? If you could share a sample slide with me, that would be really helpful!

Thanks a ton Alyssa! I had started by selecting that option, but changed it without testing it! I've now tested it and it works like a charm!

I had an issue with the T/F question, however. I worked around it by switching it over to a multiple choice.  The feedback with the try again button would not pop up for the incorrect answer. I'm not sure why!

Thanks again Alyssa!
