Return to Menu at Particular Point in Timeline
Feb 07, 2019
Hello!
We're working on an employee orientation where users will continue to return to our main menu via a button we've created. The first time users reach the page, they are greeted with audio and animations. When they return to the menu, via our button, we'd like them to return to the end of the timeline, so they don't have to listen to the audio and view the animations every time. The tricky part is, we are using the player for 'replay' and would like them to have the option to restart the slide from the beginning, if they choose. Because of this, we need the slide's 'when revisiting' property to remain on 'reset to initial state'. Any suggestions?

Maybe you could add the audio and animated objects on a layer that is only displayed the first time around. For subsequent visits, the user would only see the (mute & unanimated) baselayer.
That's a tactic I was just trying, but I'm unsure how to return to the baselayer. Is this something you could point me in the right direction on?
You could set up a TrueFalse variable with an initial value of False. Then, on the menu slide`s baselayer, add a slide trigger that shows layer xyz when timeline starts if variable is False. On the layer, add a trigger that sets the variable to true when timeline starts.
I just tried something similar with a numeric variable (show introduction layer where the audio and animations are, when variable equals 0, I add 1 to the variable at the end of the intro layer timeline), but when I try to use the replay button (built in one from the player), it won't go back to the initial state so users can actually replay the audio and animations if they'd like to. The built in reply button doesn't allow you to set a trigger to it, otherwise I'd have that reset the variable to 0.

Hi Alicia,
The rewind button in the player will behave as detailed here, so it's possible that your slide properties are causing this to not restart the slide.
With your permission, I'd be happy to take a look at your .story file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here so that other folks in the community can help, or send it to me privately by uploading it here.
I’ll delete it when I’m done troubleshooting.
Hi Ashley -
Thank you for the reply! It's not something I can share publicly, but will upload it for your viewing. I'm guessing that the adjustments I'm making to have the audio and animation skipped on the return visit are interfering with the reset button working as I'd hoped. If I could trigger a click of the replay button to adjust the variable back to '0', I think we'd be home free. Assuming I'll have to just use my own replay button rather than the built in one, but I'd love any suggestions you may have!
Thank you!
Thanks, Alicia. I have your file and will take a look - and I'll respond as a part of your case!
