Revisit Quiz question

Nov 05, 2013

Quick question that I hope there is a simple yes/no answer to...

1) Does revisiting a freeform question slide set to 'reset to initial state' also reset the points scored in the %results.scorepoints% variable on the first attempt in the results slide?

2) As a follow up for 10, if the question is re-answered correctly during the re-visit does this update the scores in the results slide?

I believe the answer to both questions yes. However I have a created a feedback layer on the question slide that is triggered when the learner clicks a feedback button on a self-created results page. This means given my suspicions in 1 and 2 above that the learner can be awarded the 10 points for getting the question correct initially but then has these points removed upon revisiting the slide to view the feedback.

I need to reset the slide to initial state as another option is to re-do the question. I suppose I could simply move the feedback layer to a new slide and this would resolve the issue but I wondered whether there was a better solution?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

Greg

Hi Greg,

If you have a question set to revisit, or allow more than one attempt on a quiz question, those points will be reset when the user answers correctly/incorrect on the revisit or the retry. It sounds like you'll want them to access the slide again to see the feedback, and if you don't want them to retake the quiz question, you could change the slide properties to "Automatically decide" or "Reset to initial state" or as you mentioned include the feedback as part of a separate slide.

Thanks Ashley - It's a subtle distinction but it seems to reset the points even before the learner answers the question again. Simply going back to the slide, even a different layer, seems to reset the points. Which I suppose is the same as answering the quesiton as incorrect i.e. 0 points which is perhaps behaviour that you'd expect! It just wasn't what I wanted it to do!

Luckily, thanks to the flexibility of Storyline I've got round it by creating my own number and true/false variables to control the scoring, without having to use the default results slides. I think doing it my way will potentially cause issues when reporting SCORM data (passed/failed) back to the LMS but I think I'm prepared to live with that... .... .... maybe...!
