Save Time...is there a way to speed things up?

Jan 31, 2014

I have to create videos for our online learning university and some of them are between 30-40 minutes long.  It has always taken a long time to save these storylines. I don't have that big a problem publishing them to Articulate Online, but when I go to save the story content on my local server it takes FOREVER! Am I doing something wrong?  Do I need to change a setting or something? I started saving a video at 2:30 tihs afternoon.  It's now 3:35 p.m. and it's still trying to save!  I have 4 slides, including the 30 min video.  It's frustrating, especially because I have a deadline and have a hard time convincing my boss that I'm not goofing off and that it really does take this long to save these videos!

I think it really depends on the hardware. that is quite a long video. I had a course that included11 videos of between 30 and 90 seconds each and it would take 45 minutes to publish. When I upgraded my hardware, it improved to around 7 minutes.

That is funny about your boss (maybe not). I would use this time to check my iPhone and respond to texts etc. But for some reason it would always be this very period when a senior manager or someone senior would wander by...

I had always assumed that it took ages to publish projects with videos. (I was saving a Gb of video). Then one day it published really quickly like a matter of seconds. I thought it must have failed, but when I checked it, it was fine. So I came on the forums to find out about other people's experiences and sure enough, people didn't think it should take that long. I have discovered that saving and previewing, particularly any changes to the player settings or quality settings, seems to be the key. I have been publishing all morning really quickly. Now when I see Storyline laboring, coding each video individually, I cancel, save, preview, and it seems to do the trick. Hope this helps.
