Screen readers: Focus mode vs Browse mode

Oct 21, 2021

I have three questions about using screen readers with Storyline 360 modules. I've looked through Articulate articles, but I'm still not certain.

1) Does Storyline 360 now fully support use of NVDA screen reader?

2) Does Storyline 360 now fully support use of JAWS screen reader?

3) How do I switch between Focus mode and Browse mode on both NVDA and JAWS?

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Grace,

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes.

Storyline 360 courses work with the latest versions of NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack in our supported browsers.

  3. Are you experiencing difficulty with navigating via screen reader? Switching modes is a feature of the screen reader and not a part of the Articulate software.

Does anyone have an issue with the NVDA reading text on a slide while the audio is playing? For example- the screen reader is still describing the slide - "Slide 1-Title ...." and the narrator is speaking the introduction as well. Do I need to make the text on the slide as Decorative or delay the narration or is there something that the person using the screen reader can do to prevent this duplication? Thank you.
