Screen recording pages centering at random

May 28, 2014

This is driving me mad... I have a created plenty of screen recordings before and not had a problem but on the last few I have found individual pages suddenly centering the recording on the page whilst the rest remain left aligned. It seems to be related (mostly) to if I adjust frames in the fine tuning but I have also had it when moving a hotspot. It is really quite random. At the moment I can't find any way of changing back so I am exporting an image of the frame and replacing the page with a screenshot and deleting the original which is just adding loads of extra time t what should be quite a simple process.

Oh it's worth mentioning that the recording was resized in to pages of a different size, which may (or may not) have a bearing on things.

Anyone else had this problem and know how to stop it happening?

Thanks

Hi Richard and welcome to Heroes!

Sorry to hear about the odd behavior in your Storyline files. You mentioned it was resized, and I'm curious if you conducted all these screen recordings in the same Storyline file or importing them from another file? Is it possible that you changed the overall story size after recording or from one file to the next? If so, you'd want to determine how Storyline should handle something of a larger or smaller size as detailed here.

Also, you mentioned a sudden, random change - so it's worth checking that you're following along with these general guidelines to prevent odd Storyline behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.
