setting story size in Storyline 2

I am having difficulties  with recording simulations in Storyline 2.  I am told that the screen images are too small and that people are struggling to identify toolbar icons.  I've experimented with all sorts of permutations of story size and am still not able to produce simulations at a reasonable size.  Because I usually need to record the whole screen when the record window toolbar displays I either set it to full screen or manually drag it to the dimensions I need.  Clearly I am missing something critical, please does anyone have an idiot-proof system that I can use to set my parameters up?  thanks
