Showing Progress, replayability, and locking via state changes and variables

Hello, 

I created a series of images indicating the different topics covered in linear fashion. However, I'm having trouble changing the state (or keeping the state changed) of the topics that have been visited in the main progress indicator that I created within the Master slide. I've assigned variables within the body of the content to trigger state changes but cannot find why it's not working. I could always scrap the master slide and build state changes into each individual slide but that defeats the purpose and I'm hopeful there's a way to do it. Can someone troubleshoot with me?
