single slide w multiple independent zoom regions?

It looks like Storyline treats multiple zoom regions on one slide as a single zoom event - single line item on the timeline. Also, it looks like you need to add last zoom first and first zoom last - based on how preview is working.
And, you can choose when these multi zooms start, but you can't create when zoom 2 starts (because zoom 2 happens immediately after zoom 1 ends. (That is, we zoom in for 1 then, staying zoomed in, slide over to zoom 2 and then zoom out.)
I'd like more control over my slide than this so my fingers are crossed that I am wrong.
Am I missing functionality?
Can I create multiple independent zoom events on a single slide?
The thing I don't want to do is break a short paragraph of audio narration into single lines on multiple slides.

Update: while I'm not able to make each zoom event a separate line item, I can change order and change start and end times of individual zoom events. (I can make that work.)
