SL1 web publishing errors

Oct 13, 2015

Hi all -

I've been using SL1 for about two years now. I publish all my projects exclusively for the web and always include HTML5 output. After I publish, my team tests them in several browsers to make sure they work. Over time, some of the projects stop working. Sometimes they just stop working in some browsers but are fine in others. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. I can't find commonality among the ones that keep working or those that do not. Maybe this problem is related to browser updates, but again, that doesn't explain why some keep working. I don't have to do anything to get them functioning again other than re-publish the game and re-upload to our system. I don't have to change any settings.

My boss doesn't want to upgrade to SL2 unless he is certain doing so will fix this problem.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on what we can do?

Thanks!

Hi Jennifer,

I'd definitely suggest looking further into the changes in browser and updates. As you can see in our release notes we've done a few fixes that were browser specific.  Additionally it's worth noting there are only certain browsers that we support for HTML5.  You may want to confirm if users are accessing the course in an unsupported browser.

Sounds like browser updates more than anything else. With flash this wasn't an issue because only one thing was being updated, the flash player. Now it's every browser being updated with something in relation to HTML5 at whatever time they get around to it.

As to why some of your projects keep working, in my mind, would relate to what functionality is different in one of your projects to another. For example, a browser may update drag and drop functionality that makes one course stop working but not another because that functionality is not in both projects.

I haven't been publishing for the web with SL so I can't offer much assistance. The only other thing I can think to ask is, do you have the latest update for SL? If not that may help.
