Slides and Results go missing - from .story file and .html file

Apr 09, 2020

I have a curious situation. I would like to know why this is happening so that I can take steps to avoid this from happening in the future.

Background: I developed a short relatively straightforward presentation with a quiz and a pass/fail layers on the results page. I compiled as a webpage and saved the zip file. I then sent a copy of the zipped file to my SME to review and a copy to my IT team to test-post on an internal server as a webpage.

I get the comment back from my SME "I like the pineapple!" which is the picture that appears on the quiz passed layer. So he obviously passed his test. I go through the file that had been posted as a webpage and the presentation sticks at the last question, no quiz results slide at all, strange.

Problem: So, I go back to the .story files which I had saved in three separate spots (local drive, shared drive, and a cloud drive). I open one up and the results slide is gone. I open up files from the other two spots and the results slide is gone. Stranger.

So, I download the zip file I had sent my SME,  (who had seen the pineapple from the results slide) unzip, open with Chrome, and the results are missing!!

Can anyone help me understand what is happening??? Why are my files changing? Especially when they should be in a static, .html, state?

I have had other cases where my .story files disappear (likely due to being overwritten during compilation, at least that was my theory) but I am starting to not trust in my Articulate files.  How do I regain confidence in what I create in Articulate and send off to my boss and to my SMEs is actually what I expect it to be?

Thank you,

Hi Jason,

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know!

I am sorry that you are hitting this snag with the missing result slide. What might help when working on Storyline projects is to save and publish projects on your local hard drive. Working on a network drive or an external USB drive can cause erratic behavior due to latency. While you can place a copy of your project on a network drive or a USB drive for backup purposes, it is best to avoid reopening the file until you've moved it back to your local hard drive.

In case this helps, I wanted to share some additional resources when developing/sharing Storyline content:

Please let us know if you have any questions! We are happy to help!
