Spotlight effect

This is pretty easy to pull off using shapes, take a look at this Screenr:

You can create a spotlight effect by using shapes in Storyline.  See the 'Semi-transparent frames" section in the link below:

This is exactly what I needed...I just couldn't see the forest for the trees!  Thanks to both of you for the quick responses! 

My thanks to Bian and Steve for this info: I'd had 'senior-monent' and as Carla said "Couldn't see the wood for the trees" it all seems so familar now.   Thanks again

powerpointlabs.info is a PowerPoint plugin developed at the School of Computing, National University of Singapore that has a two click process to make a spotlight. It also has a ton of animations and other effects.

It works well and is free.

I have been working to get the spotlight to move around on the slide. I have followed your screener and can get this to work manually on the slide, but not once the slide is previewed or is published.

I tried to make it a drag n drop item but that does not work either. The donut keeps snapping back even though I set the object to free.

How do you get this to work when published? That is not in the video.

Here is another way to do it that might be easier! I needed to use this way anyway because the frame and donut shape kept the opening in the middle and sometimes I was trying to highlight sections in corners or sides.
