States have relocated

Greetings,

I'm working on my first SL project without sufficient training and experience...trial by fire, really.  I just began by using a template and then followed a 'Creating a Tabbed Interactions' tutorial to create a slide with 3 tabbed interactions.  Today I began adding content and the states have turned into a box and no longer reside in the section with the notes and the timeline.  I have no idea how to move it back so I can continue on with working on this slide.  

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.  Attached is a screenshot.
