States in Storyline -- please help.

Sep 21, 2012

I am trying to create an interaction where a dart, onced selected hits the bullseye of a dart board and a box pops up that explains the dart.

Problem:  I am using state for the dart, but when the dart goes to the "selected state" the original state remains.  In the screenshot shown below I selected the THIRD dart down. Everything worked fine. . . except I'd like the dart in it's original state to disapeear.  Can anyone help me with this????  Thanks.  Sean Harry

Hi Sean, it is hard to tell what you are doing wrong without seeing how you have set up your states and triggers, but the way I would do this is as follows:

1. Edit the Selected state for each of your darts as follows:

1. Select the dart on the slide and then click the States tab beside the timeline. Click Edit State and then click on the Selected state in the editor. Once this state is selected click the dart on the main slide and move it to where you want it to appear when it is clicked - (next to the bullseye in the dart board). Once you have it in place, click Done Editing States.

2. Add a trigger to each dart that says change state of (dart name)  to Selected when the user clicks the dartname.

3. If you only want one dart to appear in the bulleyes at a time, assign each of the darts to the same button set (you can do this by right-clicking on each of the darts and selecting button set 1).

this should work.

I have included a very quick and rather ugly example here for you to take a look at.
