Steps for Trimming a Video

Jul 18, 2013

Oh my goodness, folks...do I feel like a dolt. I know I can trim a few seconds off the end of a video I have imported into my Storyline course...I just cannot figure out the steps to do it correctly! Sadly, I'm unable to watch Screenrs here at work due to the firewall, so I'm hoping one of you kind-hearted souls will share the written steps with me...please and thank you?

Apparently the link to the tutorial you suggested to Shari Hanlon a year or so ago regarding a tutorial on editing video is no longer in the newest e-Learning Heroes version site.  I am trying to trim about 10 seconds from the end of a video.  Do you still have those steps?

Thanks,

Marge

Hi Munmun,

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes! 🌟

I'm happy to walk you through trimming a video in Storyline 360. After you've added the .mp4:

  1. Right-click on the video and select Edit Video, or if the .mp4 is selected, you can select the Video Tools ribbon and click on Edit Video.
  2. When the Video Editor pops up, select the Trim option, and drag the start and end markers to where you'd like to trim the video.
  3. Select Save and Close once you're done.

I hope this helps!

Hi, Sharria.

Thank you for reaching out! Let me ask you a few questions to narrow down the issue:

  • Are you trying to trim the video from within Storyline?
  • Do you get any error messages?
  • If you follow the instructions in this article, can you tell me where you get stuck or which steps you have questions about?

There is not, which makes sense. SL is an authoring tool, not a video editor. That said, there are free tools that work well, like MS Photo. Many commercial apps offer a free version that will work well enough. Almost all of them are easier to use for video editing than SL, and give better results.

This is not a question I recall asking.
