Storyline 2 interactive video

Jul 09, 2018

Hi everyone,

Just needing some tips and tricks with interactive video - What is the best way to mark positions on the video for buttons to appear in the video. There doesn't seem to be a timeline/counter that makes it easier to see what the time is. At the moment it is a bit hit and miss to determine when the button appears within the video. All my other settings seem to work, pause, restart etc. I generally have the controls show on the video (when planning pauses) then try and place a cue point while watching - it just never really matches up well when I preview. This method is very time consuming. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am sure I am missing something simple!

Hi there,

I would just like to add a bit more info in the hope that someone can help. Using Storyline 2. Have an instructional video that pauses when the media reaches a cue point and then a button appears. The button is clicked and a layer with additional info is displayed. The layer is closed and the video resumes. Timing of cue points is worked out using the timeline play button. The problem is that whenever I make all the placements then preview the slide the first 2 cue points appear at the correct time but any further cue points are always out of whack. I go back to edit and then preview multiple times but the timing in preview never works or is inconsistent. I seem to have wasted so much time trying to get it right. I have watched the available help videos and cannot pin point if I am doing something wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

We are using cinema8.com to create the interactive video for our work. they have a very clear and basic editor with too much-explaining video. like u many time in may story ı made the small mistake they have drag and drop layer and basically I move the layer correct place.  I will bring u a link to visit the site  http://www.cinema8.com/features

Thank you Articulate support - problem solved. I will just briefly explain the solution so it may help others.

Key point - pausing the video doesn't automatically pause the timeline (this caused the wonky timings)

  • Place each button to appear during the video on a new layer - set triggers from this layer to access the additional information. Set slide layer properties to 1) prevent the user from clicking the base layer 2) Pause timeline of base layer
  • Additional information that you want to show when the button is clicked is placed in another layer. Set triggers to play media and another to hide this layer (continue button)
  • From the base layer plan your cue points. Set triggers to show layer with button when it reaches the cue point. Set property to resume saved state

Hope this helps
