Storyline 2 vs. Studio '13 Question

Jun 22, 2015

Hello,

I am a consultant working for a large non-profit that is seeking to translate in-person training materials into interactive, online modules. They are currently using Studio '13 but are interested in Storyline 2 for its more interactive capabilities. The drawback is that turnover within the organization is relatively high so the ability for someone to learn the software quickly and utilize it effectively is a must. (The organization doesn't want to buy Storyline 2 if it's too hard to learn and users won't be able to fully utilize its capabilities.)

With this being said:

- How much training would be needed to "get the bang for your buck" using Storyline 2 as opposed to Studio '13?

- The organization will be working from a base of PPT slides. Which software is more capable of building off of an existing PPT? (I believe both are compatible but is one harder to build off of PPT's for a new user?)

- It sounds like Storyline is great - especially since it in-houses a majority of the Studio package. Is this a drawback though? Has anyone found that Studio enabled them to be more tactical with finishing a project since the programs are split up? Or can storyline be used to do specific things just as tactically?

I'd really appreciate all of the help that I could get with this! I want to download free trials to develop an opinion but don't have the time to explore the software myself. I'm new to articulate so detailed, experiential opinions are encouraged and appreciated!

Thank You Very Much,

Airian

Hi Airian,

I'll let the community answer the majority of your questions as they're more experts in terms of time to get up to speed and what may work better for some options.

In regards to training, this may be user specific - but our site does include a lot of thorough tutorials and KB articles to help folks get started. Also, as you can see the community is a great resource as well. You can also see some options here for in person or online training.

Both are compatible with Powerpoint, although Presenter (a main component of Studio) is a powerpoint add on, so by design is more compatible with Powerpoint features. With that being said, importing a Powerpoint into Storyline is a really easy process and anything to be aware of is detailed here.

This is also a really handy comparison chart of Studio '13 vs. Storyline 2 that may help you weigh what is needed vs. what is not for your purposes.  Our sales team is also happy to walk you through both set ups and answer any specific questions you may have.
