Storyline 3 r3 and Learning Locker 1

Apr 30, 2018

We recently republished a number of our lessons using Storyline 3 release 3, and they checked out on our testing platform – but they would not run on our production platform. Turns out that our web team had implemented Learning Locker v2.0.4 on the testing platform, but have not yet upgraded the production platform (still at v1.14.0).

Lessons published using SL 3.3 would load and play the first slide in our production environment, but attempting to advance or activate one of the lightboxes would hang the lesson with an endless Storyline-spinner cursor.

Fortunately, I still had the SL 3.2 installer (and had chosen not to upgrade the lessons to Modern Text!), so I have been able to re-publish the lessons in that version of SL and they do work on the production platform.

Just posting this here in case anyone else stumbles across the problem. In short: SL 3.2 lessons are working in our Learning Locker 1.14.0 environment (as well as with LL 2.0.4); SL 3.3 lessons require the LL 2.0.4 environment. We'll return to SL 3.3 as soon as our web team upgrades LL on our production platform.

Hi Eric,

Do you know what updates/changes were in the latest version of Learning Locker 2.0.4? That may help pin down what's not working with Storyline 3 Update 3 on the 1.14.0 environment.

You can see the version history of Storyline 3 Update 3 here, and that may help your team to compare that with the Learning Locker update.

Let us know how it goes, and hopefully, they'll implement the update in your production environment soon!

Unfortunately, I do not ... it's very "black box" from my perspective, and I rely heavily on our web team for anything LMS-related. The only thing we spotted in the release notes was "We fixed some LMS issues", which could be where this falls. The mention of "Pass" vs. "Complete" almost sounds like it could be part of the issue, though I don't think those messages would be sent when opening a Lightbox on the first slide (using TinCan/xAPI). If I hear anything from the web folks, I'll update the thread.

I do know that we had to republish our remaining SL2 lessons into SL3 back in November, because the web team found the SL2 lessons weren't working under LL 2.0.4 in their advance testing, so it seems like a progressive change of some sort. (SL2.12 lessons worked under LL 1.14 but not LL 2.0.4; SL3.2 lessons work under both; SL3.3 lessons don't work under LL 1.14 but do under 2.0.4. We did not have these discussions with them while on SL3.1.)
