Storyline 360: Lost Connectivity Alert

Dec 08, 2022

The description about the newest SL update includes: "shows learners a message stating they're offline on desktop and mobile devices when they attempt to navigate to another slide without an internet connection."

What happened before when the learner lost their Internet connection?

We are seeing some issues with a training that was created last year. Our LMS is saying that the reason a learners completing/passing status is not being recorded on the learners profile (after they successfully complete/pass the training) is that "a Fatal error occurs when a user’s initial launch is disconnected from VPN/network."

Can you confirm this? Or explain (so I can pass on to them) what would happen in the training if a learners Internet connection goes down while they are going through the training?

Thanks for any help/direction you can provide.

Hello Rebecca,

Thanks for reaching out!

You can check out this article which explains how the Lost Connectivity Alert works in Storyline 360:

You'll need to republish your courses using the November 2022 update of Storyline 360 to take advantage of this feature. Here's what to expect when a learner gets disconnected from the internet while taking a course:

The offline notification appears in the published course when an LMS statement fails to record. The LMS statement keeps attempting to record until the learner's network connection is restored. When the LMS statement successfully records, the offline notification disappears, and the learner can continue taking the course.

Hope this helps!

Hi Rebecca,

This feature didn't previously exist in Storyline 360, (It did, but only for courses that were published in Flash format, which is no longer supported) so if the internet connectivity was disrupted while learners were taking a course then there's a chance that the attempt was not recorded in the LMS.

Hi Rebecca,

Storyline 360 content is preloaded, so an attempt will not be recorded in an LMS only when there is no internet connectivity at the moment the course tries to connect to the LMS to send data. You can know more about what your course is sending to your LMS by enabling the debug logs:

And if you have any specific questions about what your course is connecting to the LMS in the background, feel free to reach out to our support team here for additional assistance.
