Storyline and Oracle LMS

Apr 14, 2016

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone in the community has ever tried to publish and upload a storyline course into an Oracle LMS where you track not only the overall score but also the individual questions in terms of what they got right or wrong.

If you have I would like to know if use used SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 or TIN CAN API and if you had to do something specific in the LMS to make it report the score and per question detail.

Thanks

Leanne

Hi Leanne,

I can't speak specific to Oracle, but here is the data that Storyline will send to your LMS. Scorm 1.2 does not report the question text, so if that is something that will be of importance to you you'll want to look at the other publishing options. Have you tested to see what type of reports you can pull from Oracle?

Hi

I will ask my IT team to look at the reports but could you explain what I am asking them to look for exactly?

Also if SCORM 1.2 doesn't track at an individual question level which version of SCORM does?

We are really looking to be able to say whether you went through all the material, passed the assessment that us built into the course (it runs through out in a formative manner) and then where necessary be able to look at which questions the individual did not get right to have a conversation about those specific areas. I know we are asking for alot but I have been told it can be done. I just need to know what I need to have in my LMS to do this and how I need to publish in Storyline.

Thanks
Leanne

Hi Leanne!

You can see what Storyline is sending based on what Ashley previously shared. It is up to the individual LMS in how they interpret and report on that data.

The question text, not the answers, is what Ashley was referring to if you needed it and that is in the documentation as well.

It may be best if you could hear from other users of the Oracle LMS and hopefully they will have better insight for you.

Also, please note that replying via e-mail attaches your signature and you are welcome to pop in and edit if needed.

Hi Leanne,

Scorm 1.2 just doesn't report the question text, but it will still track if the user answered correctly or not. Scorm 2004 or Tin Can API will allow you to see the question text specifically vs. just the interaction ID. What you may see in the report with SCORM 1.2 is something like this:

Scene9_QuestionDraw01_Slide1_FreeFormPickOne_0_0

Which understandably could be confusing if you're not sure what you're looking at!
