Storyline capabilities

Apr 27, 2013

I use the Engage software in my Articulate '09 suite to create these vocabulary play lists for my ASL class. I know it's a relatively simple tool, but it is the most clicked on part of my class so I can't lose it.   I am seriously considering trying out the Storyline product as well, but need to know if it t will allow me to create a similar type of tool?  I feel my students would benefit a great deal from being able to use their "devices" and still get the content, hence the Storyline curiosity on my part.  I am just trying to find out every thing I can now before I start my trial.

Thanks!

Hi Allie,

The Storyline Glossary does not appear to have the video capability that you require - however...I am sure you can easily build a similar thing in Storyline "manually" using layers and triggers.

Storyline can do pretty much anything, but you will need to appreciate that is not as "templated" as Studio.

Of course - you can still create in Engage and bring into Storyline, but you will not be able to edit it once it is imported.

Thanks Bruce.  I am one of those teachers who is learning instructional design out of necessity.   It's a lot to have on my plate to be designing and teaching a full load all the time.  For that reason, I am in a better comfort zone with the "template".  I plan on testing the waters and brave the jump into Storyline.  Stay tuned!  I always have a LOT of questions.  The thought of not being able to edit once it's imported doesn't worry me.  When  I import to storyline in this way, is there any anticipation of more issues?  Also, does that push over also end in HTML5  formatting?

Thanks so much!

Frankly, I love when you guys contradict each other.  Even super heroes need  an occasional smack down!!  hehe!

I suppose if I am considering a "redesign" of my materials, I may want to learn how to create the same "Glossary" in Storyline OR just wait for the 2013 version of my software to release so I can do it once and improve the standard of my formatting.  I ran into a ton of stability issues in our "Cantvas"... ehheeemmmm I mean Canvas LMS this semester.  My Flash only worked sometimes.  It was quite frustrating for students (oh yeah... AND me).  Ease of use and stability is my goal at this point. I want my time to be spent teaching not trouble shooting technical issues.   Do you think I'm on the right track with my thoughts on this matter?  I sure wish you guys weren't so good about keeping release secrets!

Thanks super heroes.
