I have created a storyline test file for custom next buttons. If you don't want to use the in-built settings for revisiting slides then you can use this Course Complete variable. The Next button will initially be disabled until text/audio or animation is complete.
If the user finishes the course and decides to revisit old slides then waiting for animated areas to finish can be tedious. Resume saved state option will not allow animations to replay along with audio or text effects. Once the course completes then all next button states will then be changed to Normal (Clickable).
Hopefully this helps someone. If you have a quicker or easier method then let me know.
I do something similar but on a slide level. I have a unique variable for each slide. I think your method works very well for a shorter course. I have used the unique variables for every slide for courses that are not typically completed in one sitting. Thanks for sharing. It is extremely tedious process.
