Storyline File Icon Missing After Update

Aug 01, 2016

Last week I downloaded and installed the Update 10 for Storyline 2. Now my Storyline Icons are replaced with the attached. Can someone tell me if I did something wrong?

Glad it's known and being fixed. I'd like to add my voice to those asking that it get fixed as soon as possible. We have lots of files with similar names (Word docs, zip files, audio files, etc.) and since the icon disappeared, I regularly open a wrong file or think the .story file is missing because the real file looks like something else. It's a small thing, but a little like that tiny rock in your shoe... Sure it's possible to keep walking, but it'd be a lot more fun without it. Thanks!

I experienced the same issue with the icons. At first it was just the icon but after working with a template, I ran into another issue. The slides looked fine on the left hand pane but appeared completely out of whack on the slide view and objects were either gone or shifted. It was not pleasant at all. To resolve (for now) I uninstalled update 10, ran the SL2 cleaner tool, and reinstalled update 7, which was the last version I had saved. All is good now. Will not update until this issue is resolved. Good luck and hope devs figure it out soon.

Hi Ediana- Thanks for sharing your experience here, sorry you were seeing that happening! The issue being reported in this thread is something that should not affect the files themselves or the software, just the appearance of icon for the file. I haven't heard of an issue with the slides themselves being distorted after the update, so that would be something I'de like to ask a little more about if that's ok. Would you mind checking to see if your DPI settings meet these requirements? Were you accessing the files from a local drive? Did it happen while working with one specific template or were you seeing it with others well?

Hi Al,

Thank you for following up on this. See response inline below:

**The actual story files were not distorted. It was the the story template.
Unfortunately, I did not take snapshots. I immediately removed the update,
and installed the older version Update 7 and all was well.**

I haven't heard of an issue with the slides themselves being distorted after
the update, so that would be something I'de like to ask a little more about

**I check my settings DPI is set to 96 or 100%. To test, I just now
changed it to 125% to see if it would affect a story file or template but it
only affected the Windows system icons not the objects in my SL2 files. **

Were you accessing the files from a local drive?
**Local drive**

Did it happen while working with one specific template or were you seeing it
with others well?
**Noticed on the one template I was working on at the time.** Note: Since I
noticed the anomalies right after the update, I reverted to Update 7, which
fixed the issue and have not experienced anything of the like before or
since then on any other templates. Perhaps it was a fluke but good to note
for future reference.

Happy to test out anything else you might think could have caused it if
not the update.

Thank you kindly,

Ediana

Hi Ediana- Thanks for popping back in to share your experience and those further details! Would you be able to share a copy of that template here? I'de like to do some testing on my end to see if I can reproduce what happened for you. You can add it as an attachment right to a comment in this thread or if you'd prefer you can share it privately with us using this form

Hi all,

I wanted to provide an update here, as Storyline 2 Update 11 was just released, and included a number of fixes which you can see in the release notes available here. The item you all may be particularly interested in is how it fixed an issue where:

  • Fixed issue where Storyline project file icons would be blank

You can download the latest update here, and after downloading and installing the latest update you’ll want to republish any existing content to ensure that the updates and fixes are applied.
