Storyline file is locked by another process

I went to open a file from last month to do some branding and received this message:

process locked message

What does this mean and how can I unlock it?

This is really weird, but I need that file.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi there, Niomi. I'm sorry that happened!

There could be a process in your computer (file backup, security software, etc) that is interfering. These troubleshooting steps have been successful for me in the past with this issue; just move on to the next if you can confirm:

Ensure you're working locally
Close any other instances of Storyline in your Task Manager
Reboot your machine
Copy and rename your .story file in File Explorer, and then open the new file from there
Check for any applications that "back up" your files running in the background
