I haven't seen this issue, especially only in Preview - but there are a few things you'll want to check into. Please review the following information on working in a Mac environment. You'll also want to check the DPI setting as described here and if using Storyline 1 work at 100% zoom while editing your slides.
Thanks for your reply. I'll check the dpi when I get home. I had brought a project home from my Dell pc at work. The project had been imported from a ppt deck. It seems like there are a lot of text layout and font conversion issues when importing from ppt, and my guess is that is where the problem is.

Here is some additional information on importing Powerpoint and elements that may not be consistent across Powerpoint to Storyline.
