Storyline is freezing, again and again...

Apr 15, 2014

Hi everyone!

I am creating a course, which is about 40 slides, a weight of 78 Mo, and since a few days it doesn't stop freezing.

Let me explain : Once I make an action, like moving an object on a slide, storyline does not answer to any command for like 10 seconds. Then it allows me to enter another command.

I made a few other e-learning courses with that tool and it's the first time those freezes appear. So i think my computer specs are not concerned here.

Also, I tried to repair it, but it didn't work.

I wonder if these lags appeared when I moved on some pictures, used in the presentation, from a folder to another in my computer...

What do you think?

I tried creating a new course and it went as well as before, with photoshop, a 3D engine and the bugged storyline course running behind. So really this is not a lack of RAM  that I suffer.

I tried to move some objects from the bugged course to the new one, and it confirmed that this bug came from the course, because every single moved object made the new course bug. I couldn't preview it with a moved item in it, and if I removed them I could preview without any problem.

That is quite weird, right?

I have the same problem here with my courses. It doesn't do it all the time, but I have noticed that it's helpful to decrease the weight of the images, especially the ones in .png that can be quite heavy.

What I also found useful is to have all my items locally, that is to say not working with images on an external hard drive for example. Everything should be on the same drive.

Hope it helps a bit :p

Hi Mickael and welcome to Heroes!

Sorry to hear about the freezing your experiencing, and there are a few other things I'd check into. First, I'd want to confirm that you're working with local project files as described here.  This includes your image files and anything else you're adding to the project and I wouldn't suggest moving them from folder to folder once you've included them within Storyline. To try and resolve the bug issues with your file, you can try importing it into a new Storyline file as described here.  Since Storyline does need a fair amount of memory to run, I'd also recommend closing other non essential programs while working in Storyline to see if that helps with the freezing issue - if so, then you'll want to connect with your IT department to see if you are able to update the amount of available RAM.

Please feel free to keep us posted after you check into those elements.

Hello all.

Try emptying your temp files; Start>run>%temp%>select all>delete. You will get a window saying it can't delete so and so because it is open, just tell it to skip and do the same for the rest of the conflicts. Empty recycle bin.

I was having the same issues some time back. Discovered this little trick and haven't had the problem since. As soon as SL starts to act funky I do this and problem solved. I run 4 gig ram only, well within specs.
