Storyline & LMS records not updating to "Completed"

May 13, 2015

Hi - we're using Storyline to generate courses & it's linked to our LMS. However, in some instances the LMS records are not updating to capture course completions. Has anyone experienced a similiar issue?

Hi Helen,

This blog about common LMS issues might help (http://blogs.articulate.com/word-of-mouth/troubleshooting-lms-issues/). You can also use SCORM Cloud to test your course. You can often look under the hood a little better to see if something might be conflicting. It is interesting it works sometimes. This is either due to some unique workflow someone is taking through the course, or some issue between the course and the LMS (so it might be the LMS).

If you use a common Storyline template, you might want to create a brand new Storyline file with not content just to rule out that some other function is causing the issue in Storyline.

Hi Helen,

David shared everything I would in terms of testing the content and determining where the issue may lie.  Also, as a reminder Storyline communicates course completion to a learning management system (LMS) as soon as the learner meets the completion requirement—i.e., either when they reach the designated quiz result slide or when they've viewed the required number of slides. In terms of how the LMS registers it though, I've heard of some users mentioning that it was finalized once the user closed the course - either with the browser closer or if there was an exit course trigger. So you may want to look into both of those options.

You'll also want to make sure that users are accessing the course in a supported web browser as detailed here.
