Storyline navigation buttons

Jan 27, 2015

Hello!

I've recently started experiencing a strange issue with Storyline 2. It seems that when I publish modules, some or all of my navigation buttons either won't work or don't even appear. It doesn't happen all the time and may not happen on all screens, so it's very difficult to troubleshoot. Does anybody have any idea why this may be happening?

I've checked the player settings and navigation is set to free. In one of the affected modules, the navigation was straight-forward "prev" and "next" buttons. In the other module, the navigation is a bit more complex, with some of the navigation buttons being enabled by actions the learner performs.

I'm stumped ...

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Hi Leslie,

Yes, I'm using the latest version of Storyline2. I am able to reproduce the error within a specific published file, but the same error doesn't occur every time I publish the file.

All of our staff members use IE as our default browser. (IE8)

I managed to find a workaround for one of them, using variables and triggers, but the other one remains a mystery to me. I would publish the file and view the output. In the output all the necessary navigation buttons would be there and function fine. However, when I zipped it and put it into our LMS the navigation buttons would not be there. I've published the file multiple times and think I've finally managed to get a version that includes the buttons, so there's no urgency to this request. I just wondered if there was something I was doing that was causing the problem. I'd like to avoid it in the future.

Thanks!

Krista

Hi Krista! Thanks for the updated information.

Perhaps it is the one file. You could try to import into a new file to see if this alleviates the issue.

Also, I like to test in SCORM Cloud to see if it's the content or the LMS that is causing the issue.

Also, please note that replying to the forums via e-mail attaches your signature, but you are welcome to pop in and edit that if needed.

Thanks for your suggestions Leslie. We have a "sandbox" for our LMS, where we can test our modules before promoting them to our live site. In the past, we haven't used it much because we haven't typically run into problems of this nature. My experience to date has been that the Articulate products are pretty reliable. However, I may be making more use of the sandbox in the future.

In the meantime, I've managed to get both of the affected modules working, though in the one case, I didn't do anything differently - just kept republishing it until I got one that worked.

I appreciate your quick response.
