just need some clarification about changing the Players skin on storyline. I know there is no sdk yet for storyline but would it be wise to change the skin by using the files of the project or the xml presenter? Also is there a way to add an extra item on the menu apart from the slide name? The I need to build a template which will have next to each menu slide the slde name and the duration is that possible? Or I need to create my own custom navigation and not use the default one?
There are a number of tutorials about updating and customizing the Player templates within Storyline. Here is a whole list of player tutorials, and specifically you can change the menu options by following this tutorial, and update the titles if need be.

All the above tutorials are related on how to change the features of the default player. What I need to do is to change the skin or change the appearence of the buttons on the default player.

Anything beyond the tutorials I shared would require our upcoming SDK, which we haven't announced a release date for yet. If you'd like to stay up to date on this, I'd suggest subscribing to the Word of Mouth blog.
You also may be interested in this tutorial on how to make a chromeless player, and then you could customize the Storyline background to fit within the texture you'd like.
