Storyline will not import PP slides

Jun 05, 2014

I'm looking for suggestions - In the (recent) past I have been able to import PP 2010 slides to Storyline.  Suddenly this function does not work.  I'm using the same computer and no settings have been changed.  The PP is not password protected.  I've done a MS Office repair and restarted the computer.  No change.

Is anyone else having this issue?  I built a lot of graphics in PP, but would really prefer the interactivity of Storyline over Presenter for this course.

The only new thing on my computer is MS Lync.  Is anyone aware of Lync making it so that PP and Storyline will not function together?

Hi Joyce,

You mentioned conducting the repair of MS Office - but did you also repair Storyline?  Is there an error message when trying to do the import - or it just doesn't seem to work? You may want to review this article here.  Also, as a reminder, you'll want to be importing a local Powerpoint file into a local .story file.

I don't know a lot about MS Lync, but I remember only one other thread with MS Lync and it was connected to some video codec issues not being compatible. If after checking into all the above option, are you able to try uninstalling MS Lync and see how the import behaves then?

Thanks for the feedback, Ashley.  The PP and Storyline files are both on my hard drive and I attempted the same action with the files on my laptop (after saving to the harddrive).  No luck.  I'll have to work with my IT to see about repairing Storyline as I don't have administrative rights to my computers, although, since it isn't working on either machine, I'm afraid there's a different problem.  I don't think that uninstallying Lync is an option.

Hi Joyce,

Certainly understandable - and since it was the only new item you could think of, figured it was worth checking.

Let us know if you're able to repair Storyline and how it behaves after that. If you think it's the file itself, I'm happy to try importing the Powerpoint into a Storyline file for you. Can you share it here or I can send you directions to share it with me privately.

Hello again,

Well... we tried all of the suggestions and I'm still not able to import the PP into Storyline.  We even tried starting over from scratch with a brand new PP file and a brand new Storyline file, without success. We did find that one of my teammates (with the same computer programs) is able to import PP to Storeline and she also has Lync.  I attempted to attach the Articulate package (I have now recorded with Presenter) but it won't upload.  If you could let me know how to share it privately with you, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.

Hi Joyce,

It may be too large to upload here - but I'll only need the Powerpoint file to try importing it into Storyline, so I won't need any of the Presenter elements or packaged files. I'll send you the directions on how to send it along.

Were you able to conduct the repair? If you need your IT team to assist, you may want to do the more involved repair here.
