Storyline2 - Graphic Shapes viewed on timeline, but not displaying on screen.

Jan 13, 2015

These are shapes with text.  I do not have the images "hidden" - I could see them yesterday, now I cannot get them back.  They are in the timeline.

Thanks for your suggestions - and also why this is occuring.

Attached is a snapshot - I highlighted the timeline and saved as a PNG so you can see what should be displayed. The left side
Shows the shape and text not displayed. I actually had several of these shapes on my slide behaving in the same way. Yesterday
It looked good - today, not working. I have decided I need to start over.

Thanks for any thoughts you might have -

Terra: Phil very well may be right, but your issue might have something to do with the group you've created. Sometimes grouping objects and text creates issues, especially with more sophisticated interactions.

You might create a fresh slide, as Phil recommends. If the issue remains, I'd fool around with ungrouping the text and object, or bringing in the whole group as an image. Let us know how it goes. --Daniel

Thank you for your help. I find this actual grouping to be quite simple - triangle with a little text. Never had issues before and just downloaded Storyline2 a few days ago after using the trial.
I decided to recreate the slide and it took me quite a while - today I opened it again and found the same problem with multiple images on that slide all ghost like. I closed the file and opened again and did see them all back.
Just not sure what is occurring.

I do agree that creating PNGs will resolve the issue, but sometimes I am reluctant to do that because the size and clarity of the text can be lost. Looks fuzzy.

Thanks again for your help,

Terra

Terra: Sometimes groups can throw things off. What I'd do next: If this were happening to me, I'd next delete Storyline off my machine and then re-install a fresh copy. Some may think this is drastic, but I don't.

btw, does this issue occur when you open a fresh Storyline file?

Hi Daniel,

Since I just started working with Storyoine 2, I have not had a chance to open new files.  I am still working on my first using this version.  I do have a hunch that I might have had a corrupt file.  Since I had started my course using the Trial, I may have to start over if it happens again.

Thanks again for your htoughts,

Terra

Yeah, a reinstall isn't a bad idea; it doesn't take long, and and if it makes the problem go away, then you'll have your diagnosis.

Exploring the corrupted slide possibility-- do you have backups of previous versions of the .story file? When I lost data in SL1, the corrupted .story file was always much smaller than previous versions. I haven't had trouble with SL2 corruption, though, so I don't know if it will be the same.

Okay - bear with this question --- when you want me to reinstall, are you suggesting that SL2 is corrupt?  Or are you suggesting that perhaps my course has a corrupt slide?  If it is a corrupt slide, shouldn't I just start the course clean?  ----which, I don't want to do.

I do not have previous vesions since this was a new course that I am in the middle of designing.

Hi Terra!

If you cannot re-create this issue in a new file, then you can assume there was a problem with this project.

You may even be able to simply import this course into a new file as this tutorial explains.

If you are having issues with Storyline in general or multiple projects, then you would need to explore the repair options here.

You are getting some great assistance here from everyone. Thanks guys!
