Storyline2 Player Template Resets When Publishing

Mar 06, 2015

Ever since we upgraded to Storyline2 we have had an issue where the player template reverts back to the default when publishing.

All of my developers are having this issue and for every scenario: new S2, existing S2, updated S1 to S2.

The only way we can use the template is to make sure we select the correct template before publishing, every time we publish. When we go in to select the correct template, it is already selected but we have to go through the process of selecting it again.

Hi Kimberly,

Just to confirm I'm following your situation, you start a Storyline project (or upgrade) and apply some particular player settings or a custom player, but then upon publishing it has reverted to the default player settings in your published output? Can you first confirm that you're all working on local project files as described here and publishing to a local drive? Have you looked into conducting the repair to see it resolves odd behavior in your Storyline files?

If you're still having difficulty can you walk me through the exact steps that you go through to replicate this?

Thanks Ashley. All developers are working and publishing locally. I've repaired, uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. testing the issue and nothing seems to help. Our developers use custom player templates that have been saved from prior projects, also saved locally. They also use storyline templates, also saved locally.

Their process:

  1. Open Storyline 2
  2. Import existing Storyline template
  3. Create course
  4. Publish

Then you should see the issue with the player template. Even if we select the correct player template at the beginning, middle, or end and save, it doesn't remember it the next time you open and publish the course.

Looking at it again, it appears only the player background has reverted back to white, instead of the player template's black. This happens every time it is opened and published.

Hi Kimberly,

Thanks for sharing those steps - so it's not the entire player template that is missing, but just the background? If so, and you change the page background color in your course player to something other than white, you may find that it's still white when you publish your course.

This is a known issue that can occur after closing and reopening a project file. It'll be fixed in the next software update for Articulate Storyline. In the meantime, here's how to avoid this behavior:

  1. Before you publish your course, go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click Player.
  2. When the Player Properties window opens, click Cancel to exit without making any changes.
  3. Publish your course.

I'll include this thread in the report filed with our QA team so that I can share additional information with you here once it's available.
