Storyview order has gone out of whack

May 16, 2016

Hi,

A complete newbie- I've managed to change the order of my scenes and can't get them back to the way they were. How do you do that?

Also, I thought I'd build all the scenes (it's a simple programme with no more than 4 linear slides methinks) but is that the best way to start. It seemed like a great storyboard!

Thanks!

Hi Sharon!  Don't worry-- we'll help you get your slides straightened out.  For starters, I wanted to drop this article from our User Guide about working in story view.  It has some information about working with scenes and slides.

Also, maybe we need to take a look at your navigation between slides; story view will arrange slides based on how they advance and/or branch.  You might have triggers leading to specific slides that need to be adjusted to reflect the proper/updated order of your slides.

Could you share your .story file with us using the Add Attachment button, and we can take a look?

Bear in mind that the flow of your program is controlled by the triggers, not by StoryView, nor by the menu.
Although Storyview drives our OCD friends  to the brink of despair, remember: WHAT YOU SEE IN STORYVIEW IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO PROGRAM FLOW DETERMINATION. It is merely a visual representation of how the triggers are set up.

There is VERY little about program flow that you can change from StoryView. If you have a trigger that jumps to the next slide, you can identify which slide is next by dragging it. Otherwise, almost anything you do in StoryView to change program flow is wasted effort and can be VERY frustrating.

If you want to change program flow, find and change the triggers that control it.

Hi Walt,
Thanks for this. It was driving me crazy because I wanted to use the
flow to show as a milestone in my project - so that ain't happening!
Kind regards,
Sharon
