Strange Button Set Behavior

Oct 30, 2021

Hi there.  I looked and found a similar thread, but my isssue seems to be different.  No matter the type of question, the slide will let me choose multiple options, but then will not let me unchoose them.  I've played with the button sets, etc., and it seems to be an issue with grouping (?).  But, I can't diagnose it:
I create the button & text boxes, group them together, and then assign it to a button group, but I still have the same problem.  I've attached a short video of what's happening, along with the story file.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

(altered storyfile to show the issue better)

Hi, Todd.

Thank you for sharing a video of what you're experiencing and the .story file!

We have a bug reported where the Selected state is not displaying/showing when the objects are grouped.

As a workaround, you can ungroup the buttons and add them to a button set.

I've connected this discussion to the bug report, which we're actively looking into, and I'll be sure to come back to update you when I have some news.

Yes, that means you can't have two objects be one button. The truth is, if you knew how hard groups work at not playing nicely with anything else in SL, you would never want to use groups for anything, and especially not to act as one of anything.

But remember, this is a visual medium; nothing has to do anything. It only has to look like it is doing it.Everything else is smoke and mirrors.

Check out the attached sample for two different methods of how to make this appear to work like you want it. I only changed "Hey There", and "Hi There". The secret is not groups, but states.

One other thing, FYI. if you create a Button set, and select one of them, you can never deselect all of them; once selected, one of the set will always be selected, You can only change which one.

OK, wow!  I ask it here and two days later there's an update that totally fixes the problem!  That's some good customer service right there!

I know it was just lucky timing on my part, but I appreciate that you took the time even though an update to fix the issue was imminent.
