Stuck with drop down box!

Jan 07, 2019

Hi there,

I am relatively new to Storyline and am currently on the trial period.  Now I am trying to create a drop down box that is triggered by a button and the closed with a X.

So I below is the link to the slide with the drop box on:

https://360.articulate.com/review/content/a0ce85d9-1a2f-4e30-b1e0-9e3d3258a168/review

So I have the box dropping but I am now stuck on how to get the box to close with a nice wipe animation when I click on the X button.

This is what I have done so far:

  • Created 2 layers, one with the box going down and one with it going up.
  • The Enables button has a show layer trigger to the down layer
  • On the Down layer I have the box and the X button. On the close button is a trigger to show the Up layer and an entry animation to the box to wipe down
  • The Up layer duplicates the down layer but there is an exit animation to the box to wipe up

But as you can see from the link my X button doesn't seem to be working??

Thanks for the help

Hi Alyssa,

Great thanks :)

So I have attached the Storyline file to this post so hopefully that will help.

What I want to have happen is to have the 3 oval pictures spinning (think I have managed this) and then to click on one of the ovals and the oval disappear and a text box appear instead.  But I want the remaining ovals to keep spinning, and then when you select one of these spinning ovals again the oval disappears and the text box appears. So now you have 2 text boxes and one spinning oval. Then the user clicks on the last oval that disappears and a text box appears so you now have 3 text boxes shown.

I am finding that when the first text box appears the 2 ovals will spin for the animation duration and then stop, I need them to keep spinning and I am having trouble getting this to work.

Hope that makes sense but let me know if it doesn't!

Hey Kelly. It looks like your solution to keep the swivel animation working is to loop the spinning layer. When you open the AJAX text layer, you'll want to set it up the same way: short timeline, and triggers to hide and show the AJAX layer when the timeline ends. The one catch is that you have animation on the dropdown text box, which will also loop with the layer.

The question might be: Do you want the spinning tanks more than you want the dropdown animation? 🙂

I removed the animation from the text dropdown so you can see how this might look.

Hi there,

Sorry for the late reply! Thanks for taking a look at my example Crystal.  I have had a look and it is ok not having an animation on the text box.  It is disappointing that there is not loop animation trigger as this would enable to me easily put an animation on things without having to forfeit other things.
