Submit Button acting like Next Button

Jan 28, 2013

I have a freeform drag and drop question in my Storyline file. I have the question set to give feedback after the user clicks the Submit button. This works great unless I also have a Next button included on the Player for that slide. Then the Submit button ceases to work, and behaves exactly like the Next button -- taking me to the next slide. If I use a combination of Previous button and the Submit button (with no Next button), Submit works fine.

I've searched the forum and see some similar issues, but not quite this one. It seems the combination of buttons selected for that slide's Player has some sort of effect on the button functions. Any ideas on what may be going on?

Hi Rebecca,

That does sound odd. Are there any additional triggers tied to the submit button, or is the order for the player triggers incorrect? You could try changing the position of these triggers to see if that makes them behave properly.

Also, are you able to post the project's .STORY file here? If you'd like, you can insert the slides with the issue into a new, blank project, just in case the file is too large to post, or if the course contains information you'd like to keep private.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for replying! Here's what I see in the Triggers panel:

  • The Submit Interaction trigger is the very first Player trigger on that screen.
  • The second Player trigger on the Submit button is to set a variable named "Demo4" to "True" so that I can record the interaction as complete on the main menu screen.
  • The third Player trigger is to jump to the Main Menu slide when the user clicks the Previous button (since I'm unable to use a Next button due to the issue I'm having).

When I choose Edit Drag and Drop, I confirmed that "Delay item drop states until interaction is submitted" is checked.

My file (and the slide in question) contains proprietary client content, so I can't upload it to the Forum. :-(
