Switching storyline players in one course?

Aug 08, 2013

Let's say I want a resource tab at the top of the player to show different resources depending on which part of the course a learner is working through. My first thought was to change the player, but that doesn't seem to be working. Other ideas?

For example, if the topic is adult learning principles I want those sites available on the resource tab. However, if the topic about facilitation principles and techniques, I want different sites on the resource tab.

I didn't see anything helpful so far. Will someone please point me in the right direction? Specific step-by-step would be most useful to me. I'm just jumping in...

Thanks!!

Hi Rita and Ashley,

Rita, welcome to the community. Another thought to throw out there. Not sure it would work for you.

What about creating 2 different master layouts and including a Resource tab on each, say, at the top of the screen? That is, the layouts could be identical, but one could be for the ALP and the other for FPT.

The Resource tab for the ALP would show those resources, and the one for FPT would display those.

The setup would be, using ALP as the example

  • Create the custom layout for ALP (you can duplicate a layout to create a custom one out of it)
  • Insert a button in the desired position and enter the text, e.g., Resources.
  • Add a selected state to the button.
  • Create a layer containing the resources info on a text box or a shape.
  • Back on the "base" ALP layer, add a trigger to the Resources button that says to show the resources layer when the state of the button is selected,
  • Add a 2nd trigger that says to hide the layer when the button is not selected.(This means the resources info will show the first time Learners click on the button, and hide when they click on the button again).
  • You could also add a trigger that hides the layer when Learners click outside the button.

Do the same for the FPT layer, but with different resources.

Here's a screen shot of what the tab might look like. You'd probably remove the player resources tab if you did this. I left it here to give you an idea of size comparison. Obviously, the bottom one is the one you'd be creating.

If that sounds like something that might work for you and you'd like more info, just shout out.

Hi Robin,

We haven't implemented any changes around the player features and when they're visible/not visible. If you enable something on the player (modern or classic) it's available throughout the entire course for your learners and keeps a consistent experience.

I'll be curious to see if others in the community have come up with a creative idea since this discussion started!
