Have you double-checked to make sure you're selecting the Master slide that's assigned to that specific slide? You can double-check this by right-clicking the slide and selecting "Layout".
If you are selecting the correct Master, can you try creating a new Master slide and see if the same formatting issues occur, please?
I've set it on all the layouts and I only have one master set.
I created a new Master that pops up with a new collection of layouts, and the problem is gone! But do I now need to create all my layouts again? I can't figure out where the center alignment might be hiding in my original set of layouts.... Is there a way to edit the default text alignment of the top master slide, ie all slides?
Usually, on the top level of the Master, you can modify the primary formatting. However, if your slides are tied to the other layouts, there may be different formatting (centered, left alignment, etc.).
If you still have trouble with this, you're welcome to share the .STORY file. I'd be happy to take a look and see if there's a problem with alignment in the course.
This thread is a bit older, but we'd still be happy to take a look at your files as Christine mentioned. I don't see where Ricky shared his file, so it seems he was able to solve it on that end.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with.
I know the topic is old. I found it as the same problem occurred. Just wanted to go on record that not only occurred with Ricky Mao. I solved the problem by doing what was said. I redid all layouts.

Good morning Ricky,
First, if you haven't already, you may want to read over the tutorials we have on Master slides:
Using Slide Masters
