The Dangers of the Design Tab
Apr 11, 2014
I'm not sure if anyone else has done what I did this morning, but here is my warning.
If you are almost ready to deliver a completed project DON'T TOUCH THE DESIGN TAB. It may look fun and interesting, but its contents will give you a nightmare. I spent the better part of 2 hours (and the remains of my hair) trying to figure out how to repair the reformatting that automatically applies to your entire project when you click on almost anything on this tab. And the hit-and-miss UNDO didn't help. Fortunately I had a backup copy, from which I was able to import a scene and apply it's customized theme... but even that was not graceful and took a bit of trial and error.
My suggestion to the dev team for impending (I wish) release of V.2. At the very least offer a warning that this will have story wide ramifications. Perhaps a preview and reverse option would be nice also.
Anyway, still love Storyline, just a bit wiser and older this afternoon.

Hi Stanton,
Sorry about the project, and your hair...but good idea to send along to our team. I've included the content here in the form of a feature request (you'll likely receive confirmation of it shortly).
This also happens with the color theme and font theme. If you click to make edits (not click to implement) it will automatically apply your slides to any changes you made.
Yes, the Storyline interface lacks thoroughness. I can create a new theme easily in the design tab but can't delete them after. And it lets me create multiple Themes with exactly the same name. So they all are labeled the same later.
Hi Jeff,
You're welcome to share your thoughts in the form of a feature request as well and you can send those along here.
Thanks, Ashley, I have done that.
So you don't have a way to delete them?
Hi Jeff,
From within Storyline you can't delete the design themes, but you can delete custom color schemes. For more information on working with the themes, you can see the information here. The custom themes you create are stored here: %AppData%\Articulate\Storyline\Themes so if you need to remove them entirely, you could look at deleting the associated theme files there?
