Timeline ends/automatic progression

Jul 22, 2012

Hi,

The company I am working for have just bought storyline, so I am using the trial version to start creating some training modules. In a fair few of the modules, there are step-by-step view video scenes to go through software processes. These are currently shown as if they are a video, with automatic progression to the next slide when the timeline ends. However, recently it has stopped progressing. I haven't changed anything in particular that I know could affect it - ie between when it was working and when it stopped I have only changed simple aspects like text on some slides on a separate scene to the video.

I have checked the length of the timeline (between 2 - 6 sec usually) as well as made sure that the trigger exists, and that the slide should automatically progress. Is there anything else I need to check?

Some of the modules are starting to get pretty urgent, so I need to find out how to fix this asap! Thanks for any help!

Also - I noticed in one module, slides that do not have a caption will automatically progress. This doesn't happen in another module though?

Thanks for the quick reply Adrian, unfortunately this issue doesn't seem to be quite so straightforward.

I have checked every slide in the scene individually - to make sure that "Automatic Progression" is selected, as well as deleted the old trigger to advance to next slide when timeline ends and created a new trigger to do the same thing.

I think I have found a work around - rather than associate the trigger with the timeline of the slide ending, as I have a button visible for the length of the timeline, I have created a trigger where the slide goes to next slide after the timeline of that button has ended.

Thanks for your help - I'm still not sure what I was doing wrong, but at least there's a way to get the modules done!

Hi Catherine,

Let's take a look at your triggers. What about just doing an object trigger on the screencast or video itself. You would set it to jump to the next slide when the media completes, in this case the video or screencast. I would do away with all the rest of the triggers dealing with slide advancement so that they don't interfere.

It's basically the same as what you are doing now, except it is now tied to the video instead of the button. A much better alternative I think.

Hope this is clear,

Adrian
