Track completion by passing of a quiz in cmi5

May 11, 2023

Hello! I am working on a project where we'd like to have learners marked complete only after successfully passing a quiz. When updating my publish settings in Storyline 360, I've noticed that the tracking option under cmi5 states "When a learner completes a quiz"... which means whether they pass or fail, as long as they complete the quiz. As a work around, I was planning to track using the complete course button and only provide this button to learners that pass the quiz. Unfortunately, when I selected that as my tracking option all of my "submit results" triggers associates with the quiz became disabled.

Is it possible to communicate quiz results to the LMS while keeping some learners from being marked complete if they've failed? Also, just fyi my LMS requires a publish to cmi5.

Thank you!

Hi Laura!

It sounds like you had some questions about how your learners' quiz results are being reported to your LMS via a cmi5 package. I'd be happy to help!

When you publish to cmi5 and select "when a learner completes the quiz", the reporting should behave as you described. Let me demonstrate it below:

Using SCORM Cloud, which is an online LMS environment, I tested a published Storyline 360 project with a couple of graded question slides. The publish settings I used were "Report to an LMS" - - > (cmi5) in Storyline version 3.75.30269.0.

First I answered both questions correctly and this Peek I recorded shows you my results after completing the course in SCORM Cloud.

Then, I tested it again but answered both questions incorrectly. This Peek shows how the results were reported to SCORM Cloud.

Everything seems to be functioning as it should with my cmi5 package. Also, I wanted to share this helpful article which goes into a little more detail about LMS standards such as cmi5.

Please let me know if you have any more questions! Looking forward to hearing from you!
