Track Score using Variables Throughout Course

I've just started exploring the use of variables and I've come across a challenge. I am trying award learners medals (bronze, silver, gold) depending on how they answer questions in scenarios. I have a slide which tracks what medals they earn throughout the different scenarios.

I am trying to use a variable to track a score based on what they answer. So if they answer the "bronze" question, it will add 1 point to the variable. If they answer the "Silver" question, it will add 2 points to the variable, etc. Depending on how many points they have at the end of the scenario, they would be awarded the appropriate medal.

This works great for the first question in a scenario, they select the "bronze" question and 1 point is added to the variable, but as soon as they go to the next slide, the variable resets to the default (0 in this case). Is it possible for the variable to keep track of the score throughout the scenario?
